Welcome back to Korean James, today I will inform you on four Korean Festival that are weird but beautiful and exciting.

HANSIK (COLD FOOD DAY):

This festival is popularly known as the cold food festival, people on this day seize to cook with fire and eat food produced from the non-fire cooking process. It still remains their native secret on how they cook some dishes without fire. Throughout this day, they consume cold food, perform sacrificial rites at Jongmyo (the royal shrine) and Neungwon then visit their ancestral graves. HANSIK also marks the beginning of the farming season.

DANO FESTIVAL:

Now I’m not talking about Dano milk but the national holiday in Korea. On this day, the citizens of korea rejoices as women wash their hair in boiled water with a sweet fragrance to make it shiny and attractive. The people dress up in red and blue and wear iris roots to cast evil spirits out.

YUDU (A SPECIAL CELEBRATION):

Here each household offers the first harvest of the season to God just as we give our thanksgiving offering and gather fruits and crops as their annual household stock. The funny thing about this festival is the fact that the citizens visit nearby streams to wash their hair to remove all the bad spirits and bad luck from their lives.

SEOLLAL (HAPPY NEW YEAR):

This day the people wear traditional dresses, eat traditional food, play ancient games and listen to folktales. It’s a day where everyone lives the word from the Holy Book “love your neighbor as yourself” since they exchange gifts, wishes and blessings to one another.
